Lights, Camera, Action! The Leows Theater, Jersey City's Landmark Treasure

The Leows Theater, is a historic building with an architect style of the Baroque/Rococo period. This elegant, decadent and beautiful palace has suffered several mishaps from Jersey City's Mayor Steven Fulop with regards to funding for its repair to comply with the city's safety and health code regulation. $300,000 of grant from the FOL to be exact, was improperly taken away from the historic artistic treasure at some point last August.

Nonetheless after careful investigation of the city's misconduct, followed by a lawsuit enacted by FOL, the $300,000 grant was restored to the theater. As a participant of Jersey City's 2016 Golden Door International Film Festival, held this past weekend 09/22-09/25, where the incredible mind blowing film, Tastes Like Medicine, directed by Steven Alexander was screened, I can categorically state that the space is magnificent and truly is an enigmatic treasure to the naked eye. As members of the artistic community, we must do all that we can to preserve this space.

The Golden Door International Film Festival has held its festival screening at the Leows Theater since its 2011 inception. The palace was erected on September 28, 1929.
